The new Huawei P40 series flagship smartphones will be revealed this week. We’ve already seen lots of high-resolution renders but now we get a clear look at its hardware specs thanks to serial leakster Ishan Agarwal.
The smallest of the lot is the Huawei P40 which also comes with 5G support. The device is said to feature a 6.1″ display which is a similar size as the current P30. However, it will come with a 32MP punch-hole selfie camera and under the hood, it runs on a Kirin 990 5G processor.
At the rear, the P40 gets a huge rectangular camera bump that houses a triple-camera array. Apparently, Huawei is calling it the Leica Ultra Vision Triple Cam setup featuring a 50MP main camera + 16MP ultra-wide-angle+ and an 8MP telephoto camera which is capable of doing 30x digital zoom. The device will also feature a Huawei XD Fusion Engine for photos. It isn’t clear what this feature is but it sounds similar to Apple’s Deep Fusion camera feature that uses AI.
In terms of battery, the device is expected to come with a 3,800mAh unit and as usual, it will support Huawei’s 40W SuperCharge charging via USB-C. Interestingly, the base P40 is also speculated to support 27W wireless charging.
The bigger Huawei P40 Pro is said to come with a 6.58″ display with a dual-punch-hole camera which consists of a 32MP main selfie shooter and a depth sensor. The processor is also a Kirin 990 5G but the cameras are a notch higher with a quad-camera setup.
It appears that the device will come with a 50MP main + 40MP ultra-wide-angle + 12MP telephoto + ToF sensor. Like the P40, there’s also Huawei’s XD Fusion Engine and the telephoto camera is said to be capable of doing 50X SuperSensing Zoom with telephoto stabilisation.
Similar to last year’s model, Huawei is retaining a 4,200mAh battery. It supports 40W fast wired charging and it’s said to support wireless SuperCharge up to 40W.
Apart from the P40 Pro, Huawei is expected to reveal a bigger device which will compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. Previously rumoured as the P40 Pro “Premium Edition”, Ishan claims that the new larger device will be called the Huawei P40 Pro Plus (or P40 Pro+).
The biggest difference is that the rear of the Pro Plus model will get a Penta-camera setup, while the front is said to come with three sensors. Ishan hasn’t posted much about the specs but it has been speculated that the Pro Plus model could be capable of pushing up to 100X zoom as hinted by the label on the camera bump.
The P40 Pro Plus is said to come in just two colours – Black and White. Unlike the P40 and P40 Pro, the Plus model is expected to use ceramic for its rear panel for a more upmarket feel.
Ishan also added that the P40 series is the world’s first smartphone to feature a quad-curved display. This means the glass not only curves around the sides but also on the top and bottom as well. As a result, the new flagship series could feature virtually no forehead or chin.
The Huawei P40 series launch is taking place this coming Thursday, 26th March 2020. Due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, the new flagship devices will be announced via a live stream event and you can watch it at 9pm Malaysian time on Huawei Malaysia’s Facebook page.
