To reduce the spread of COVID-19 during the Movement Control order, convenience store chain 7-Eleven has announced that they are reducing its operating hours effective today. Instead of the usual 24-hour operation, all 7-Eleven stores will be open only from 7am to 11pm from the 21st to 31st March 2020.

According to its official statement on Facebook, they apologise for any inconvenience caused and they urge everyone to play their part in keeping our community safe. However, there’s a footnote that says the operating times are subject to change depending on the advice of authorities.

For example in Melaka, the state government has recently shortened the permitted operating hours for convenience stores from 7am to 7pm during the MCO period. However, convenience stores attached to petrol stations may operate from 6am to 8pm. In Selangor, convenience stores are allowed to operate until midnight.

In case you missed it, the police have reminded the public to send one representative of the family to buy daily essentials during the MCO period. The public should only go out when necessary and to minimise movement during the period.
