Oppo Find X2 series Malaysia: Everything you need to know

After what felt like a really long time (it was, actually—nearly two years), Oppo’s finally got a successor to their fascinating but controversial flagship smartphone, the Oppo Find X. This year, it’s called the Find X2 and there are two of them. Here’s everything you need to know about the Oppo Find X2 and Find X2 Pro.

Pricing and availability

Below is the Malaysian pricing for the Oppo Find X2 series:

Find X2 Pro 12GB RAM + 512GB storage – RM4,599
Find X2 12GB RAM + 256GB storage – RM3,999

The top-of-the-line Find X2 Pro comes in Black (Ceramic) and Orange (Vegan Leather) while the standard X2 comes in Black (Ceramic) and Ocean (Glass).

Below are the pre-order and first-day sale promotions by Oppo Malaysia.

Although the price isn’t revealed yet, pre-order for both the Find X2 and X2 Pro will be available starting 6th March 2020. Oppo is offering a free VOOC Powerbank (worth RM229) plus 1-year extended warranty with 90-days screen protection (worth RM299) with every pre-order. The pre-order for the Find X2 will end on the 13th of March while the X2 Pro will be running until the 20th of March 2020.

It is worth pointing out that the pre-order is essentially a booking and you are required to place a RM300 deposit.

In terms of availability, the first-day sale for the Find X2 is happening on the 14th of March 2020 and the X2 Pro sale will take place a week later on the 21st of March 2020. Both events are happening at Pavilion KL.

During the first-day sale event, you will get the same freebies as the pre-order with an additional Oppo Enco Free wireless earbuds worth RM499.

Oppo Find X2 & Find X2 Pro specs

Oppo’s new handsets are flagship smartphones through and through. You get top-of-the-line specs, as well as a big focus on both the device’s screen and most importantly its cameras.

At its heart, the smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 865 processor with 12GB of LPDDR5 memory as well as 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage on the Find X2 and 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage on the Find X2 Pro. On the software side of things, the smartphone runs on Android 10.0 with Oppo’s ColorOS 7.1 running on top.

Upfront, you’re getting what looks like a banger of a display. It’s a 6.7″ OLED panel that pushes a Quad HD+ resolution of 3168×1440 pixels, giving you a pixel density of 551ppi. On top of that, this display also has the ability to push a refresh rate of 120Hz, which is awesome, but it also can display 100% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut with a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1. Peak brightness is rated at 1,200 nits in HDR with an overall max brightness of 800 nits.

Then, you get to the camera system, which is one of the biggest highlights of this smartphone. On the Oppo Find X2 Pro, you’re getting a triple camera setup with a 48MP (custom Sony IMX689, 1/1.43″, 1.12 micron) wide angle camera, a 48MP ultra-wide angle camera, and a 13MP telephoto camera. But it’s not just any telephoto camera, it’s one with a periscope lens design to give you maximum reach when zooming. This translates to 60x max zoom and improved 10x hybrid zoom.

On the Find X2, you’re getting a more watered down system. The wide camera is still a 48MP sensor, but it’s the Sony IMX586 unit instead, while the ultra-wide is now a 12MP sensor, and while the telephoto camera still has a 13MP sensor, it no longer has the periscope lens design. This means you’re only getting 20x max zoom and 5x hybrid zoom.

The good news is that both smartphones have a 32MP selfie shooter nestled into the tiny punch hole at the top of the smartphone’s display. On top of that, both devices also offer stereo speakers which are great for watching videos.

The Find X2 Pro is also Oppo’s first smartphone to come with IP68 rated dust and water resistance. With this rating, the device can survive submersion up to 1.5m deep for up to 30 minutes. Unfortunately, this water resistance protection is not applicable to the standard X2 model.

Other differences between the smartphones can also be spotted in the handset’s batteries where the Find X2 Pro has a 4,260 mAh cell while the Find X2 features a slightly smaller 4,200 mAh battery. That said, both devices will support 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 Flash Charge fast-charging technology which the company claims can fully charge your handset in just 38 minutes.

Both smartphones are also 5G capable with support for both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) architecture. It also supports WiFi 6 (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.1.
