COVID-19: All but one confirmed case have recovered in Malaysia

The Ministry of Health Malaysia has updated that two more confirmed coronavirus cases have recovered and discharged. This brings the total of recovered cases to 22, however, there’s one new case that was reported today. Previously, there were no new cases since 15th February 2020.

According to the latest tweet, the latest recoveries are Case 16 and Case 22. One is a 67-year-old woman from China that received treatment in Hospital Kuala Lumpur and an 83-year-old woman from the United States which received treatment at Hospital Sungai Buloh. There are no deaths due to COVID-19 in Malaysia so far.

For latest confirmed case is a 53-year-old Malaysian woman which had a recent travel history to Japan. After returning to Malaysia on 23rd February, the woman had symptoms of fever the next day and sought treatment at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur. She was confirmed positive for COVID-19 on 27th February 2020.

According to the Ministry, a total of 1,569 individuals have been tested for COVID-19 as of 27th February 2020. This includes patients under investigation (PUI), close contacts of COVID-19 positive cases, individuals from humanitarian missions and Dream World cruise ship. Out of the total figure, 23 have confirmed positive, 1,525 have returned negative and 23 are still awaiting lab results.

As of 8:00am this morning, there are a total of 81,398 COVID-19 cases worldwide with 2,770 deaths reported. 4% of total cases are reported outside of China and there are 52 deaths outside of China so far.

The Ministry has urged the public to take preventive steps by practising good hygiene which includes washing your hands frequently with soap and to maintain cough etiquette by covering your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. Malaysians are also advised to defer travel plans to South Korea, Japan, Italy and Iran due to the recent spike of COVID-19 cases.
