Oppo Reno 3 Pro to feature dual punch-hole camera with 44MP shooter

If you thought the 40MP selfie camera on the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G is overkill, the Oppo Reno 3 Pro will feature an even higher resolution camera. The new Oppo device will be launched outside of China and the event is taking place in India on the 2nd of March 2020.

From the looks of it, the Indian version is different from the Reno 3 Pro that was launched in China. Upfront, it will come with a dual-punch-hole display that will feature a 44MP main camera and a secondary lens for bokeh effects.

When it comes to selfies, the 44MP front camera isn’t the highest in resolution. The Asus ZenFone 6 which isn’t offered locally comes with a 48MP main camera and a 13MP wide-angle-shooter which can be rotated to the front.

Oppo India has also released a teaser video which reveals its exterior design which shares the same rear design as the Chinese version. The device still gets a quad-camera setup that’s aligned vertically on the top left corner.

Based on a recent leak by 91Mobiles, the Reno 3 Pro will come with a 64MP main camera and it can push up to 20X zoom. Other than that, it also comes with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage configuration and it will support Oppo’s 30W VOOC Flash Charge 4.0 charging. We still don’t know the rest of its hardware specs and it isn’t clear if it will support 5G connectivity.

As a comparison, the Oppo Reno 3 Pro for China comes with a 6.5″ Full HD+ OLED display that supports a fluid 90Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it gets a Snapdragon 765G chipset that comes with an integrated 5G model supporting both NSA + SA networks.

Instead of a dual-punch-hole, the Chinese Reno 3 Pro comes with a single 32MP punch-hole selfie camera while the rear gets a quad-camera setup that features a 48MP main shooter. The device also features an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, 13MP telephoto camera with 5x hybrid zoom and a 2MP monochrome camera.

Powering the device is a 4,025mAh that supports VOOC 4.0 Flash Charging. Apart from the Pro model, there’s also a cheaper Reno 3 that runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 1000L SoC. The device also gets a quad-camera setup but it uses a 64MP main camera.

Although India is the first market to get the Reno 3 Pro outside of China, it isn’t clear if the rest of the world will get the same variant. Since 5G deployment in Malaysia is expected to start in Q3 this year, we expect Oppo Malaysia to release a 5G version for our local market. At the moment, Oppo has certified two 5G devices namely the Oppo Reno 5G and the upcoming Find X2 Pro.
