I recently had the unfortunate opportunity of having the bottom 20 rows or so of pixels (about the width of the taskbar on Windows) go crazy on my monitor so I’ve been looking into getting a new one. That’s when I attended Acer Malaysia’s launch of their new crop of Nitro XV monitors and I was really surprised with how much value these screens brought.
Acer launched four Nitro XV monitors last week, but I’m most interested in their entry-level panels (because I’m broke), specifically the 27″ XV270P and 24″ XV240YP monitors. These have IPS panels that push a Full HD resolution and have pretty good viewing angles all things considered.
What makes them cool, however, is the fact that the monitors actually have a refresh rate of 144Hz that you can take up a notch to 165Hz through the overclocking function. Now 144Hz and 165Hz isn’t really going to be noticeable, but 144Hz on monitors that are priced at RM699 (24″) and RM899 (27″) respectively is pretty good value.
It puts it right up there with some of the fan-favourites like the AOC 24G2U. Besides that, the monitors are FreeSync compatible, have built-in speakers, and have a max brightness of 250 nits. On top of that, the stand that comes with these monitors also allow you to rotate the monitor into portrait which is a nice touch. The rest of the stand is pretty basic though, and doesn’t really scream quality.
If you want a little more high-end, you can go instead for the 27″ XV273X Full HD monitor that has a refresh rate of 240Hz but that’s priced at RM1,499. Should you need a little more space, you can opt for the ultra-wide XV340CKP display that’s a 34″ panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, but pushes a UWQHD resolution of 3440×1440 pixels.
Acer’s new crop of Nitro XV monitors can be purchased at selected Acer official resellers nationwide. Alternatively, you can hit up Acer Malaysia’s official online stores on Lazada and Shopee too.
Now, I’m not going to claim to be an expert in the realm of monitors, so if you have any monitors you think have better value, be sure to leave them in the comments below. No, I’m not using the SoyaCincau audience to help me buy a new monitor…that’s just a happy coincidence.
