Canon EOS-1D X Mark III Malaysia: Everything you need to know

Canon Malaysia kicks off their 2020 with the launch of their high-end flagship camera, the EOS-1D X Mark III. It’s an incredibly capable camera in both photography and videography, plus it has a couple of awesome upgrades from its predecessor. Here’s what you need to know.

Pricing and Availability

The Canon EOS-1D X Mark III is priced at RM29,999 for the body only, and is available for pre-orders from today until the 11th of February 2020. If you pre-order this camera during this period, you will receive an extra battery with your purchase so you can get two batteries total.

Search for Canon cameras on Lazada & Shopee.

Unfortunately, the camera doesn’t come with any kit lens combo of any kind, though that is to be expected because it is a pro-grade camera and the people who will be picking this up will likely already have a whole bunch of their own glass. Besides, can you imagine slapping an 18-55mm kit on this? OK, that would be pretty hilarious, actually.

Specs & features

Canon’s EOS-1D X Mark III is a DSLR that pulls no punches. It gets an updated 20.1MP sensor and an all new Digic X processor. Although this new camera only uses one processor, Canon says that the Digic X is powerful enough to outperform the dual processors on its predecessor, making the camera over 3X faster than the Mark II.

On top of that, this processor is also a whole lot more power efficient. Despite using what is basically the same battery, the 1D X Mark III has nearly double the rated battery life. Still photos with the viewfinder has gone from around 1,200 shots to over 2,800 shots. Video recording, on the other hand, is now rated for up to 2 hours and 20 minutes from the 1 hour and 40 minutes on the Mark II.

Speaking of video recording, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III can now record up to 5.5K raw video, and 4K video without a crop factor. That’s pretty monumental when it comes to Canon DSLRs. With this camera, Canon is including dual CFExpress card slots so you can put two of these super-fast cards into the camera at the same time.

This allows for a buffer of 1000 photos when you’re shooting burst (the camera can now shoot 20fps burst with AF/AE), and the ability to record RAW + MP4 video recording into the two separate cards.

What’s more, Canon also upped the ante with the camera’s autofocus system. Now, it sports 191 AF points, and a nifty little optical sensor in place of a joystick for you to use as a really fast AF point selector.

Finally, the camera is also a touch lighter than its predecessor, weighing in at 1.44kg, but make no mistake, this camera is still very heavy even without any glass. You also get built-in Bluetooth, WiFi, and a gigabit Ethernet port.
