Grab introduces GrabCar Elektrik in Indonesia

Grab is now rolling out electric cars in Indonesia and this is in line with the government’s initiative to put 2 million electric vehicles on the road by 2025. The GrabCar Elektrik fleet consists of 50 Hyundai Ioniq EV vehicles which are currently serving Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport as a pilot service. The ride-sharing platform aims to deploy 500 EV cars in Indonesia by the end of this year.

According to Grab, GrabCar Elektrik is a real form of its commitment to support the EV ecosystem in Indonesia and they aim to be one of the active drivers that initiate collaborations to bring more efficient and greener transportation solutions.

The Ioniq Electric is the EV version of the Hyundai Ioniq. According to the official spec-sheet, the electric motor has an output of 100kW (134 bhp) and has a top speed of 165km/h. It comes with a 38.3kWh battery that has a rated range of 373km. A full charge can take up to 6 hours but it can be charged quickly to 80% in just 57 minutes using a 50kW fast charger.

Those that want to try out GrabCar Elektrik can do so at Grab Pick-up Points in Terminal 3 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. You can order an EV ride by launching the Grab app, select GrabCar Elektrik and tap on GrabNow instead of “Book”. If you’ve found your GrabCar Elektrik vehicle, you can proceed by entering the GrabNow code that’s provided by the driver.
