Motorola says “Bumps and Lumps” on the Razr’s screen is normal

After a month of delay, the iconic Motorola Razr with a foldable screen is finally available for pre-order in the US. Before the device is shipped to consumers, Motorola has released a couple of videos including a care guide for the all-new Razr.

Most foldable smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X do not come with any water resistance, however, the new Razr claims to have a water repellent coating that can withstand rain as well as accidental spills and splashes.

Motorola says that the flexible screen is made to bend, and “bumps and lumps are normal” for the new Razr. This sounds worrying since some units from the first batch of defective Galaxy Fold had bulges on the flexible display.

Rory recently had a chance to try out the new Razr and it appears to offer the best folding mechanism among the three top-tier foldable phones. There’s no noticeable crease on the Razr and this is made possible by its unique hinge design that allows the screen to curve inwards when folded. This allows the device to shut completely flat without having a noticeable “thigh gap”.

Motorola also warns against applying a screen protector on the display. Like most flexible mobile displays, the 6.2″ pOLED screen uses plastic and you should keep it away from sharp objects and this should also include hard tapping with your fingernails. Lastly, Motorola also urges all Razr owners to close the phone before putting it into your pocket or purse.

The Motorola Razr available for pre-order exclusively via Verizon for USD 1,499 (about RM6,094). Delivery will start on 18th February 2020, which is a week after Samsung unveils its next clamshell smartphone that’s called the Galaxy Z Flip.

To recap, the Razr has a 6.2″ HD-ish 2142×867 pixels resolution display and it runs on a Snapdragon 710 processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage. The cover gets a 16MP f/1.7 dual-pixel main camera and a small 2.7″ gOLED screen for Quick View. Keeping the lights on is a rather small 2,510mAh battery and it supports 15W TurboPower charging via USB-C. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check out Rory’s first impressions of the Razr.
