Next Pocophone is launching in Feb 2020 but is it a flagship killer?

The Pocophone F1 was an incredible value for money flagship smartphone that you can get for less than RM1,300. Unfortunately, the former Xiaomi sub-brand has not released a new model for almost 17 months. Pocophone which has recently spun off as an independent company is about to release its next smartphone very soon. The question is, will it be a flagship killer that can truly succeed the original F1?

Poco India GM, C Manmohan had said an interview that his company will introduce its next phone in the Indian market next month. He admitted that the smartphone industry is now very different from 2018 when Poco was first introduced, however, he said that the past year and a half have been a good training exercise. Manmohan shared that as a separate entity, Poco will be able to make its own decisions independently and their focus will be on delivering premium experiences and innovation.

The brand has just tweeted that the next phone won’t be called the Poco F2. Could this mean that the upcoming device won’t be a flagship model? Or perhaps, Pocophone is revamping its product naming convention since this would be their first product as an independent company.

Of course, it would be ideal if the device runs on a Snapdragon 865. If priced affordably, it could disrupt the flagship segment including its “parent” company’s Xiaomi Mi 10.

Despite its plasticky build, the Pocophone F1 is equipped with top-of-the-line internals. It has a Snapdragon 845 processor, UFS 2.1 storage, a decent 6.18″ Full HD+ display and it still packs a microSD card slot as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack. On top of that, it even packs a 4,000mAh battery with QuickCharge 3.0 charging support via USB-C.

When the device was released in Malaysia, the base 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model was going for RM1,237 while the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version is priced at RM1,428. What’s remarkable is that the Malaysians could order the device about a week after its global announcement in India.

Are you looking forward to the next Pocophone? Let us know in the comments below.
