Following the Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G, Oppo has just gotten the green light by SIRIM for its first 5G smartphone in Malaysia. The device with the model number CPH1921 has appeared on the certification database and it covers the 5G band.
However, this upcoming device isn’t the all-new Oppo Reno 3 series that supports dual-mode 5G. The device with the model number CPH1921 is actually the first-gen Oppo Reno 5G that is powered by a Snapdragon 855 processor and it supports 10X hybrid zoom.
The Reno 5G was the same device that was used during Celcom’s live 5G cluster field trial in Petaling Jaya where it hit 1.2Gbps downloads. Looking at the listing above, the Oppo Reno 5G only supports 3.5GHz band and it is a single-SIM device. It is worth pointing out that the Snapdragon 855 platform uses a Snapdragon X50 modem which only supports 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) networks.
It isn’t clear when the device will go on sale but Huawei has already started advertising its Mate 30 Pro 5G on outdoor billboards. The Mate 30 Pro 5G is a dual-mode 5G device and it has been certified for both 700MHz and 3.5GHz spectrum bands. 5G is expected to be commercially available in Malaysia in the third quarter of 2020.
