This is the first smartphone to be certified for 5G use in Malaysia

Huawei is bringing its Mate 30 Pro 5G to Malaysia very soon and they have declared it as the first certified 5G smartphone in Malaysia. As spotted yesterday, the Mate 30 Pro with 5G has just passed our SIRIM certification and they have started advertising the device through billboard ads.

What’s interesting is that the Mate 30 Pro 5G has been certified to use the 700MHz, 3500MHz and 3700MHz bands, which are among the 5G bands that were defined by the MCMC. This is the first smartphone to receive such certification on SIRIM.

On top of that, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G supports dual-mode 5G and this means it can work for both Non-standalone (NSA) and Standalone (SA) 5G architecture. This is made possible with its Kirin 990 5G SoC that comes with an integrated 5G modem.

At the moment, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro (4G) with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage is going for RM3,899. We expect the 5G version to be priced above the RM4,000 mark. In China, the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage version is priced at CNY 6,399 (about RM3,781) while the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant is priced at CNY6,899 (about RM4,077).

The question is, when will the Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G go on sale? With the billboards erected, it could be released very soon and possibly before Chinese New Year. Based on the image, it looks like the device will be offered in orange with a “Vegan Leather” back. The next question is when can you use it for 5G since the official 5G spectrum availability for Malaysia is targeted for Q3 2020?
