Some people fall asleep faster if they listen to music. If that’s what you do on a regular basis, Huami, the company that makes the Mi Band for Xiaomi, has just introduced the Amazfit ZenBuds. It is a pair of sleeping-aid earbuds that feature a noise-blocking in-ear design. On top of that, it can even monitor your sleep quality and heart-rate.
Unlike your typical true wireless earphones, the ZenBuds are incredibly light at 1.78g per side. Designed to be worn while sleeping, it features soft and “skin-friendly” silicon tips for greater comfort. The earbuds themselves are designed to fit snugly into your ears to insulate you from outside noise.
Instead of playing your favourite tracks, the ZenBuds will play sleep-inducing sounds ranging from chirping birds to relaxing sounds of “babbling brooks”. Unfortunately, you can’t upload your own music to the earbuds and you’re limited to their own library of sounds which can be downloaded through the app.
Once you fall asleep, it will stop playing so that you can continue to sleep undisturbed. It can track your sleeping pattern including heart rate and sleeping position.
According to Amazfit’s website, a full charge can last up to 8 hours with continuous melodies playback and heart rate monitoring turned off. If the soothing sounds are set to turn off automatically, and with heart rate monitoring enabled, it can last up to 12 hours per charge. The large charging case can provide up to 56 hours of additional usage.
Apart from helping you to sleep, the ZenBuds can also wake you up gently by playing an alarm tone that increases gradually. Since it plays in-ear, it won’t disturb others around you.
From the looks of it, it doesn’t seem like you can use it as a normal pair of Bluetooth earphones. This appears to be more of a pair of smart earplugs with built-in sleep monitoring features. It would have been great if it can be used for music playback but that would probably add extra bulk to the earpieces. Huami has recently showcased the Amazfit ZenBuds at CES 2020, but they have yet to provide any pricing and availability details.
