The Samsung Galaxy S20’s headline feature: 120Hz displays

Well, one of the headlining features, at least. Recently, news surfaced that the latest iteration of Samsung’s flagship “S” series is set to be called the Galaxy S20—if you believe prolific leakster, Ice Universe. Based on his prediction, the S20 series will be made up of the Galaxy S20, S20+, and possibly, the Galaxy S20 Ultra (although he concedes that naming of the last version is yet to be confirmed).

Besides the expected chipset and camera upgrades, the source has also revealed that one of the most significant upgrades to the S20 series will be a 120Hz display, which is something that users have certainly been hoping for.

This would put the S20 series ahead of flagship offerings from rival companies such as OnePlus and even Google and their Pixel lineup, which have 90Hz displays instead. Even the latest iPhones only have 60Hz displays.

Based on his Tweet, it also appears that Samsung is planning to include the high refresh rate display on all three models, which is definitely good news for those of us who plan to go for the more budget-conscious option.

As per the norm with Samsung’s flagship smartphones, you’ll probably be getting a Snapdragon 865 or an Exynos processor depending on your region, with the Malaysian market usually getting the Exynos version.

One of the bigger differences between the three variants should be display size, to say the least. We’re looking at a possible 6.2″ display for the S20, a 6.7″ screen for the S20+, and a huge 6.9″ display for the Ultra version.

In any case, we won’t have long to wait for official confirmation. Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S20 will be globally launched alongisde the Galaxy Fold 2 on the 11th of February 2020 at the Galaxy Unpacked 2020 event.

We’re expecting to see the second Fold to look similar to the new Motorola Razr, with Samsung also reportedly working on technology that will improve the screen creasing issue synonymous with foldable phones right now.

Pre-orders for the Galaxy S20 series should also start by the end of the week, with shipments to commence on Friday, February 21. Depending on confirmed features, the S20 is certainly one to watch out for—and a 120Hz display is definitely a good start.
