We’ve seen the smartwatch market heat up over the last few years or so, with some pretty decent options being released in recent times. Xiaomi only announced the Mi Watch towards the end of 2019—an interesting prospect that runs on a modified version of Android Wear—and now, the Xiaomi Mi Watch Color has been announced.
Available for CNY799 (about RM470), Xiaomi’s latest smartwatch comes with a 1.39″ AMOLED display that pushes a resolution of 454 x 454. The naming of the watch comes from the colourful variety of interchangeable straps that are available, with two-toned straps available in multiple colour combinations.
We aren’t yet sure if the Mi Watch Color will run on Wear OS, although it does seem likely given the fact that the Mi Watch runs on a modified version of the operating system—with the MIUI skin layered over Wear OS (a first for Xiaomi).
Battery life appears to be a strong suit for the Mi Watch Color, with Xiaomi saying that the smartwatch’s 420mAh battery will last for 14 days on a single charge for typical usage, 22 days on long battery life mode, and 22 hours on sport mode.
Other specs are on par with a smartwatch in today’s day and age, with GPS and GLONASS built-in, while the Mi Watch Color is rated at 5ATM for water resistance. There’s also Bluetooth 5.0 support, and there’s also support for NFC payments—although we don’t know how well that would work outside of China.
Unfortunately, we don’t have news on whether the Mi Watch Color will hit global markets anytime soon. There hasn’t been any word on whether the Mi Watch Color will have eSIM support, either.
At the moment, we haven’t had a chance to have a hands-on with Xiaomi’s new wearable, but it certainly looks like an interesting proposition at that price point. If it runs on Wear OS, you’ve got access to a wide selection of apps, while battery life is certainly right up there with some of the better options in the market.
The best part? It doesn’t look like a knock-off.
