As we count down to the new year, some of you might think it’s a great idea to capture the celebrations from the sky. However, the Royal Malaysian Police has issued a stern warning to all private drone owners not to do so or risk having your drones jammed or disabled.
According to the KL Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim, it is an offence to fly a drone into the area of Ambang 2020 new year celebrations. The police will deploy a special team that uses a special device to jam or kill drones that are flown by the public.
The ban of drones was done in the name of safety as the police do not want a collision of drones in the area which can cause serious injuries to people on the ground. The police seek the co-operation of the public and to refrain from flying their drones during the celebrations.
The Police Chief also added that over 1,000 policemen and officers will be on duty during the new year celebrations that start from 8am until after midnight tomorrow. Approximately 30 main roads in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will be closed tomorrow in stages from 8pm. The public is advised to take public transport which will extend their operating hours until 1.30am.
The main Ambang 2020 event will be held at Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur and there’s also a Festival Light and Motion event (LAMPU) that’s happening at Presint 3 in Putrajaya. Other notable new year countdown activities include Cloudora Festival at Sunway Lagoon, Citta Mall and Sunway Velocity Mall in Cheras.
