Before we celebrate the new year, Google has revealed its top trending searches for the past 12 months. They have shared their top 10 searched terms in Malaysia grouped under 9 categories and it includes news, tech, movies, individuals, sports, TV shows and music. Some of the terms that ranked #1 may surprise you.
When it comes to trending searches in Malaysia, the #1 most popular term is Earth Day Quiz which was organised by Google in conjunction with Earth Day on 22nd April. This is followed by Thanos and Bantuan Sara Hidup.
Unsurprisingly, the top 3 searched news topics are IPU (Air Pollution Index), Tanjung Piai (By-Election) and Belanjawan 2020 (Budget 2020).
Under the tech category, the #1 most searched device is the iPhone 11, followed by the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro. Strangely, there are no Samsung devices on the top 10 list and the Huawei Nova 3i which was launched in 2018 still manages to get the #5 spot. Newcomer Realme has also made it to the list at #9 with the Realme 5 Pro.
Google Malaysia has also a list of top searched individuals. The most searched person is Vanessa Angel, followed by Azmin Ali and in third place is Emma Maembong.
In the movies category, the top 3 terms are Joker, Captain Marvel and Avengers Endgame. Meanwhile, for music, the top 3 are Senorita, Mimpi and Memories. For TV Shows, our local content dominates the top 3 spots with Setelah Terlafaznya Akad, Nur 2 and Curi-Curi Cinta.
Google Malaysia Communications Manager of Consumer Products, Nadia Khan said “Malaysians continue to turn to Search for some of their most pressing questions. Just as how it helps us explore and discover a world of information, Search also gave us many ways to learn more about the past year. The Year in Search reflects topics that are truly unique to 2019, and it encapsulates Malaysians’ collective imagination to form a montage of what were top of mind for all of us.” To explore more, you can visit the Google Trend site.
