Grab Malaysia has recently revised its delivery fee for GrabFood and it is no longer fixed at just RM5. Instead, the food delivery service is now adopting a tiered system where your delivery charge could be as high as RM9. The charge is similar to GrabMart which ranges between RM5 to RM9.
According to TheStar’s report, the new delivery fee structure was introduced in order to expand GrabFood’s service area. As a result, customers should be getting a wider variety of restaurants that are located beyond the standard coverage area.
When we checked on the list of restaurants available, the delivery fee for restaurants that are less than 8KM away is still charged at RM5. It costs RM6 for restaurants that are about 8-10KM away and it is RM7 for restaurants that within the 10-12KM range. From our office at PJ, we got a GrabFood delivery fee of RM9 for a restaurant that’s located 14.4KM away in Sri Petaling.
According to Grab, the new delivery fee will allow them to compensate its riders better for travelling long distances. If your favourite restaurants are still within the 8KM range, you should be paying the same RM5 fee.
Unfortunately, there’s also a little bit of bad news. It appears that Grab will be suspending its monthly subscription plans that offer greater savings. The RM25 Deluxe GrabFood Plan that offers 15 free deliveries, 3x RM10 coupons and 40% discount voucher will no longer be available on 13th December 2019. TheStar reports that current subscribers can still renew the plan for one more time and customers will receive a 50% discount coupon (capped at RM20).
