Spotify Wrapped 2019: What have you been listening to this decade?

Every year, Spotify organises its “Spotify Wrapped” campaign, which allows its users to find out their top tracks, podcasts, artists, and even genres of the past year. But Spotify is introducing something new for this year’s version of Wrapped—the decade in review.

I’ve only been on Spotify since 2013, and since the app was initially launched over 10 years ago, they’ve decided to add in information from the past decade. It makes for some pretty interesting reading, especially since the Wrapped feature for this year tells you who your “Artist of the Decade” is.

I look forward to the annual sessions of getting ribbed by friends and colleagues over my choice of music, especially when it comes to my top tracks being very… mainstream. But with my “Artist of the Decade also included in this year’s round-up, the mocking is amplified, even.

But how I choose to explain my choice of music—or at least what Spotify thinks my favoured tracks are—is that songs are mainstream for a reason. They’re addictive, and often times I leave Spotify playing on shuffle during daily drives. And there’s nothing wrong with having a mainstream taste in music, I believe.

To get your very own personalised Spotify Wrapped stats, head over to https://www.spotify.com/my-en/wrapped/, and enjoy the colourful slideshow that starts. It’s a pretty nice experience, and be sure to use earphones so that you can listen to the selection of songs that you’ve listened to most in 2019.

Like other years, Spotify also curates a playlist of your most played songs of the year, called “Your Top Songs 2019”, which you can directly access from the Spotify Wrapped page. If you open the Wrapped page on mobile, it automatically directs you to your Spotify app, and you can choose to share each stat onto your social media platforms.

Meanwhile, Wrapped also includes your favourite genres of music, as well as your top podcasts of the year. Unfortunately, there isn’t a playlist of your most-played songs of the past decade—that would have been a nice trip down memory lane.
