Garmin has just launched its MARQ series of “smart tool watches” in Malaysia, with 6 new models in the collection engineered for individuals that have a passion for flying, racing, sailing, exploring, and sports performance.

Interestingly, Garmin isn’t calling the new devices smartwatches. Instead, these tool watches are inspired by aviation, automotive, marine, outdoor and sports markets. These are Garmin’s ultimate time pieces, and they all come with an array of modern smartwatch features.

Here’s everything you need to know:

Pricing & availability

The MARQ series comes in 6 different variants: MARQ Athlete, MARQ Adventurer, MARQ Commander, MARQ Captain, MARQ Aviator and MARQ Driver. The pricing in Malaysia is as follows:

MARQ Athlete – RM7,999
MARQ Adventurer – RM9,500
MARQ Commander – RM9,500
MARQ Captain – RM9,999
MARQ Aviator – RM10,500
MARQ Driver – RM13,500

Watches from the series are available in Garmin Brand Stores at Taman Maluri (HQ), Mid Valley Megamall, 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Mid Valley Southkey The Mall, Johor, Queensbay Mall, Penang. You can also pick them up at Swiss Watch Gallery stores at the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Mid Valley Southkey The Mall, Johor, and the Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang.

Garmin MARQ Collection specs

According to Garmin, the MARQ Collection is crafted from with titanium, while the watches also feature sapphire crystal that’s formed under extreme heat and pressure—this creates an extremely durable lens that’s over twice as hard as glass. The watches also come with a ceramic bezel inlay to help protect it from general wear and tear.

As for the display, the watches feature an always-on sunlight-readable display. The watches also come with GPS and premium smartwatch features, including notifications, activity tracking, music storage, along with wrist-based heart rate and pulse ox2 sensors.

Garmin is also promising up to 12 days of battery life for watches in the MARQ Collection in smartwatch mode, along with 48 hours of battery life with UltraTrac mode and 28 hours in GPS mode.

The most affordable watch in the collection, the Athlete, is designed for athletes, featuring VO2 max, advanced running dynamics, as well as a Pulse Ox sensor. The Expedition, meanwhile, comes with TOPO mapping, an altimeter, a barometer, and a compass. The ClimbPro feature provides real-time information for climbs and hikes, including gradient, distance, and elevation gain.

The Garmin MARQ Captain, designed for those who spend time sailing the seas, comes with a range of marine-centric features. These include a regatta time bezel, coastal charts, tack assist, and a port conditions watch face to stay updated on real-time conditions at ports near you.

As per its name, the Garmin Aviator is designed for aviation enthusiasts, and comes with features such as Nexrad Weather Radar, airport information and Garmin cockpit integration, along with a 24-hour GMT bezel.

Sitting at the top end of the collection is the Garmin MARQ Driver. This is designed for the racing enthusiasts out there, and comes pre-loaded with 250 global race tracks. In addition to that, there’s a diamond-esque carbon coating that supposedly withstands high vibrations in racing environments.
