Xiaomi CC9 Pro is an epic 108MP smartphone with two telephoto cameras

The Xiaomi CC9 Pro is officially introduced in China and it is expected to be released as the Mi Note 10 for global markets. This is their premium mid-range smartphone that comes with not just four but a total of five cameras at the rear.

The CC9 Pro features a 6.47″ Full HD+ dual-curved Super AMOLED display that comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor. There’s a tiny notch at the top which houses a 32MP f/2.0 selfie camera. Under the hood, the device is running on a Snapdragon 730G processor that can be configured with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

For taking pictures, the device gets a penta-camera setup that’s aligned vertically on the top left corner. Despite being a mid-range device, the CC9 Pro currently has the highest DxOMobile score of 121 points, which is on par with the Huawei Mate 30 Pro.

As teased earlier, the device comes with a high-resolution 108MP main sensor from Samsung and it has an aperture of f/1.69. Interestingly, the lower models with 128GB of storage come with a 7-element lens, but the premium edition that comes with 256GB of storage is fitted with an 8-element lens.

The 108MP sensor is a Quad-Bayer unit and it shoots at 27MP by default with a 1.6-micron pixel size. The sensor itself is pretty big at 1/1.33″ and it is larger than the Huawei Mate 30 Pro’s 40MP ultra-wide-angle camera that uses a 1/1.54″ sensor.

To get closer to the action, the device gets a 5MP telephoto camera that has 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom and it goes all the way to 50x digital zoom. That’s not all, there’s also a second 12MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. This is the same camera that’s used for portrait photos. For sharper images, both the main and telephoto camera comes with 4-axis optical image stabilisation.

In addition, the CC9 Pro also gets a 20MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera that has a 117-degree field of view, plus a dedicated macro lens with autofocus that allows you to capture subjects between 2 – 10 cm. If you want to go even closer, the ultra-wide-angle camera supports super macro at 1.5cm. For better illumination, it has two flash modules for hard and soft light.

The CC9 Pro also retains a 3.5mm headphone jack with Hi-Res Audio support and also included is NFC as well as an IR blaster, which can be used as a universal remote control. Powering the device is a massive 5,260mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging via USB-C.

According to Xiaomi, the 30W charger can push 58% charge in 30 minutes and a full charge can be done in just 65 minutes. Surprisingly, the CC9 Pro’s charger is claimed to be faster than the Mate 30 Pro’s 40W SuperCharge charging brick. In their comparison, the Mate 30 Pro took 73 minutes to get a full charge and that device has a smaller 4,500mAh battery.

In China, the CC9 Pro is officially priced as follows:

6GB RAM + 128GB storage — CNY 2,799 (about RM1,654)
8GB RAM + 128GB storage — CNY 3,099 (about RM1,831)
8GB RAM + 256GB storage — CNY 3,499 (about RM2,068)

Overall, the Xiaomi CC9 Pro is an impressive photography-centric smartphone. Despite not packing a Snapdragon 855+ processor, it is still quite an incredible package at its price point. At CNY 2,799, it is slightly more expensive than the base model Redmi K20 Pro (8GB RAM + 128GB storage) but you do get a top-tier camera setup, a larger screen and a huge battery.

If you’re interested to get one, the Mi Note 10 series that runs on global ROM is expected to be announced tomorrow.
