Realme XT Malaysia: Everything you need to know

The Realme 5 series was only just launched, but Realme has unveiled another smartphone that will pique the interest of many. This is the Realme XT, which shares a lot of the same internals as the Realme 5 Pro, but comes with a higher resolution main camera: 64MP, to be exact, along with some other upgrades.

So why are Realme releasing yet another mid-range smartphone, and what’s new about the Realme XT? Here’s everything you need to know.

Pricing and availability

The Realme XT is available in 2 colour options, Pearl White and Pearl Blue, and you get a single memory configuration variant: 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Offline sales start on the 9th of November, while online sales begin exclusively on Lazada on the 11th of November 2019 at RM1,399.

Meanwhile, there is also a new online exclusive model for the Realme 5, with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, that will be available on Lazada for the 11.11 sale.

The Realme XT comes with a 6.4″ Full HD+ Super AMOLED display—which is pretty decent at this price point—as well as an in-display fingerprint scanner. Powering the device is the capable Snapdragon 712 processor, which is mated to up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage. You can also expand the storage of the XT via microSD—up to 256GB.

For photograpy, you’re looking at a quad-camera setup at the rear. This consists of the Samsung 64MP GW1 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture lens, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and 2MP macro and depth sensors. For selfies, the tiny notch on the display houses a 16MP f/2.0 front camera.

The relatively large 4,000mAh battery sustaining the Realme XT is a tad smaller than the Realme 5 Pro’s, but it supports 20W VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 via USB-C. Realme says that the 20W charger that comes in the box will charge the phone from 0–100% in 80 minutes, while 1 hour of charging during PUBG games will get the device to 43%.

And thankfully, we’re still seeing a 3.5mm headphone jack on the device. Software-wise, the Realme XT still runs on Android 9.0, with Realme’s ColorOS 6 UI skin on top. However, Realme is promising to push Android 10 to the Realme XT in Q1 of 2020, along with the Realme 5 and 5 Pro.

While the Realme XT is certainly competing against some very capable devices in the Malaysian mid-range market such as the Redmi 8 Pro as well as it own Realme 5 Pro, perhaps the high resolution camera and Super AMOLED screen will give it the edge over its competitors.

After all, the margins are increasingly fine when it comes to the competitive and saturated mid-range.
