SOCAR Malaysia now has 2,000 cars in its fleet

Car-sharing platform, Socar, has hit a new milestone in Malaysia. Launched in January 2018, Socar now has 2,000 cars in their fleet located at 1,000 zones across the Klang Valley, Penang and Johor Bahru. They have also acquired a total of 500,000 members to date.

For greater convenience, Socar has expanded its door-to-door service which is now renamed to SOCAR2YOU. Initially available only in Bukit Bintang, Mont Kiara and Bangsar, SOCAR2YOU is now expanded to 10 new areas such as Mutiara Damansara, TTDI, Sunway, Sea Park, Subang Jaya and Damansara Utama. It costs RM10 for delivery and pickup within the SOCAR2YOU coverage area. In case you missed it, the free car delivery promo for the 10 new locations has been extended until 31st October 2019.

At the moment their fleet has 26 different car models and they are adding new vehicles almost every month. Socar has plans to expand to other states in the near future and its CEO Leon Foong has expressed interest to expand the service to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Socar has also shared some interesting stats for the Malaysian market. The top 3 popular models are Perodua Axia, Perodua Myvi and Toyota Vios, and typically members age 23 and below drive longer distances at 15.3km/hour versus drivers age 23 and above that clock an average of 13.7km/hour.

In terms of pickup locations, the top 3 Socar zones are in Serdang, Cyberjaya and Semenyih. According to Socar, this is an indication that their service is popular in underserved areas where it is difficult to get public transport and e-hailing. Another interesting info is that 25% of bookings are made for the evening and the top 3 destinations are Genting Highlands, Sunway and Neo Cyber.

If you’re new to the service, you can sign up here. According to Socar, they have reduced the approval time for new members and the majority of new licence approvals are done within 2 minutes as long as the details are entered correctly.
