The Huawei Mate 30 series is finally unveiled with a brand new quad-camera setup that boasts amazing photography and videography results. The latest flagship devices – Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro are also running on the latest Kirin 990 chipset that’s available with integrated 5G support.

Iconic Ring Design

To continue its iconic design from the Huawei Mate 20 series, the new Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro feature a unique ring design for the rear cameras and it even features a distinctive halo ring around it. The rear design stands out from the rest and you’ll definitely know that it is a Mate 30 device at a glance.

To elevate your video and content viewing experience, Huawei has introduced a Horizon Display that curves towards the edges at a sharp 88-degree angle. Kirin 990 with 5G

Powering the Mate 30 series is the latest Kirin 990 chip that claims to be their most sophisticated SoC to date. Unveiled during IFA 2019, the Kirin 990 is manufactured based on a 7nm+ EUV process that incorporates a three-level power efficiency architecture for the CPU. For AI-based processing, it also gets a newer Da Vinci NPU (Neural Processing Unit) that uses dual-NPU and tiny NPU cores for faster performance while maintaining power efficiency. In addition, the new chipset also gets a supersized 16-core GPU for greater graphics performance.

For ultra-fast connectivity, the Kirin 990 5G variant not only supports 2G, 3G and 4G, but also 5G connectivity in both NSA (Non-Stand-alone) and SA (Stand-alone) standards. The device has TDD/FDD full band support which enables it to deliver seamless connectivity worldwide. Huawei also claims that the Mate 30 series is the first second-generation 5G smartphone to support 4K video calls.

Huawei SuperSensing Cine Camera

Like every flagship iteration, Huawei is upping the ante with its new quad-camera setup with SuperSensing Cine Camera. For the Mate 30 Pro, the device now features a dual main-camera system that uses a 40MP 1/1.54-inch light sensor that has a maximum ISO rating of 512,000 that can capture video with extended dynamic range as well as super slow-mo at an incredible 7680fps in 720p resolution. There’s also a secondary 40MP 1/1.7-inch sensor with a impressive low light sensitivity of 409,600.

Instead of a periscope camera, the Mate 30 Pro also gets an 8MP telephoto camera that offers 3X optical zoom, 5X hybrid zoom and up to 30X digital zoom, along with 3D depth sensing unit. Also included is optical image stabilisation.

The device also gets a 3D depth sensing camera for the front to capture accurate depth-of-field information for portrait selfies while producing natural and gentle filter effects.

For the standard Mate, it gets a 40MP f/1.8 main camera, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and an 8MP telephoto camera with OIS. There’s no fourth camera and the extra hole is to house the laser focus sensor.

In terms of battery, the Mate 30 Pro gets a huge 4,500mAh unit while the standard Mate 30 gets a respectable 4,200mAh capacity. As a comparison, the current Mate 20 Pro has a 4,200mAh battery, while the standard Mate 20 settles for a 4,000mAh unit.

Both devices support 40W Huawei SuperCharge as well as 27W Wireless Huawei SuperCharge. The charging technologies are also certified by TUV Rheinland. The reverse wireless charging feature that was introduced on the previous Mate flagship has been upgraded as well for faster charging.

The 6.62” Huawei Mate 30 and the 6.53” Huawei Mate 30 Pro are available in Emerald Green, Space Silver, Cosmic Purple and Black. The devices are also available in Forest green and orange that are offered in Vegan leather. The devices will ship with EMUI 10 out of the box that’s based on the latest Android 10.
