If 48 megapixels on a smartphone’s camera was too pedestrian for you, the brand new Realme XT could be the handset for you. Today, Realme officially announced their upcoming smartphone and its headline feature is its crazy 64MP main camera.
We knew that a launch would be happening later next month, but it looks like Realme’s actually announced the smartphone ahead of the proposed launch. Here’s the rundown.
Realme’s new smartphone, the Realme XT is pretty similar in specifications to the Realme 5 Pro. Inside, it’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 processor that you can pair with either 4GB, 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and a choice of 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. According to YouTuber Geekyranjit’s unboxing video, the smartphone will come with a triple card tray that’ll allow you to use two SIM cards plus a microSD card if you need more storage.
Up front, the Realme XT also features a 6.4″ AMOLED display pushing a Full HD+ resolution that also comes equipped with an in-display fingerprint scanner. This means that the screen is a little bigger than the Realme 5 Pro’s display, but both phones still come with a waterdrop style notch at the top. Keeping the lights on is a pretty generous 4,000 mAh battery that’s just 35 mAh short of the one in the Realme 5 Pro. It will still support the company’s 20W fast-charging solution via USB-C.
Obviously, the main highlight of this smartphone is its new camera module. At the back, the phone actually features a quad-camera setup with the hero camera being a 64MP Samsung GW1 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture wide-angle lens. This GW1 sensor works a lot like the 48MP GM1 sensor that uses pixel binning to combine four adjacent 0.8 micron pixels to take photos that are equivalent to a 16MP sensor with 1.6 micron pixels.
On top of that, the Realme XT also comes with an 8MP ultra-wide camera (119-degree FoV), a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro camera–not entirely dissimilar to that of the new Huawei Nova 5T. For selfies, you’ll find a 16MP shooter housed in that tiny waterdrop notch.
Other features include a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.0, and the Realme XT also runs on Android Pie with the company’s ColorOS 6.0.1 running on top. Right now, no pricing information has been announced but we’ll probably know more as we approach the launch date. That being said, Realme’s got a good track record of very reasonable prices so this phone shouldn’t be too out there.
