iOS 12.4.1 fixes vulnerability that allowed users to jailbreak their iPhone

Apple has pushed iOS 12.4.1 update which fixes a security vulnerability in iOS devices running on iOS 12.4. It was discovered that Apple had mistakenly undone one of its security fixes which makes it possible for people to jailbreak the latest iPhones.

The vulnerability was discovered last week and Pwn20wnd had quickly released a jailbreak, which is quite rare in this day and age. The same vulnerability was fixed on iOS 12.3 but strangely it was reversed on iOS 12.4.

According to Apple’s changelog for iOS 12.4.1, the latest update addresses an issue where “malicious application may be able to execute arbitrary code with system privileges.” The page also states that for customers’ protection, Apple does not disclose, discuss or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches are available. iOS 12.4.1 is now rolling out for iPhone 5s and later, iPad Air and later and the iPod Touch 6th gen.

Apple has also acknowledged @Pawn20wnd and Ned Williamson from Google Project Zero for their assistance with the patch. @Pwn20wnd has also confirmed via Twitter that the latest iOS update has patched the exploit.

To download the update, just go to Settings > General > Software Update.
