Celcom delivers 1Gbps broadband with its own fibre network in Sabah

Celcom has reaffirmed its commitment to Sabah during “Advancing Digital Societies” event that was attended by Sabah Chief Minister Shafie Apdal. According to the telco, they have progressively invested in Sabah’s network infrastructure for the past 26 years which covers not just wireless but fibre network as well.

Celcom’s Fibre Optic Network

Celcom, together with Celcom Timur Sdn Bhd covers over 650,000 homes in Sabah with Celcom’s fibre optic and fixed wireless connectivity. Celcom’s Home Fibre broadband offering is currently available in over 200,000 homes.

According to Celcom, customers in Sabah can enjoy broadband speeds of up to 1Gbps for RM229/month in selected areas. Meanwhile, the 100Mbps plan is offered at RM120/month and 30Mbps at RM80/month. As a limited time offer, Celcom is offering a free WiFi extender worth RM149 for the first 100 customers that sign up for Celcom Home Fibre 100Mbps or 1Gbps plan.

For areas out of fibre coverage, Celcom is also offering their Home Wireless Broadband solution as an alternative to copper technology. The 4G LTE-based Home Wireless plan claims to deliver an average download speed of up to 30Mbps. The plan starts from RM70/month and they offer up to 1TB of video/music streaming data on its highest RM150/month option.

Mobile population coverage over 78%

For mobile, Celcom currently has over 1,200 sites which provide 2G, 3G, LTE and LTE-Advance in the state with over 78% population coverage. The operator utilises 4T4R MIMO, carrier aggregation and 256QAM to offer the best internet connectivity and digital experiences for the home.

86 Internet Centres in Sabah

To provide connectivity in rural communities, Celcom together with MCMC currently operates 86 out of 114 Internet Centres in Sabah. These centres offer entrepreneurship and digital training programmes which have contributed to the development of over 300 entrepreneurs in Sabah.

Celcom CEO, Idham Nawawi said, “This initiative is also in collaboration and aligned with the state government’s agenda for Sabah’s digital development and we want to reach out to all communities, both urban and rural, to have the opportunity to be adept within today’s rapidly growing digital technology industry.”

He added, “Celcom will continue to stand alongside the nation in transforming its aspirations into reality, and we are very confident that our commitment in Sabah, will contribute to our overall provision to the country for the best digital advancement and experience for every Malaysian, realising a truly digital Malaysia.”
