Malaysia Airports Berhad has announced that critical systems at KLIA Main Terminal are mostly up and running. According to their latest update, the disruption which began on Wednesday was caused by a network failure.
In the statement released at 8:40pm, MAHB CEO, Raja Azmin Raja Nazuddin said “Since the replacement of the network equipment, we have seen positive progress in network stability. Critical systems at KLIA Main terminal are now mostly up and running. Nevertheless, we have adopted a cautious approach and we will remain vigilant as we are still experiencing some intermittent issues.”
He also added that KLIA Main terminal is still experiencing some delays but the situation is improving due to the measures that have been put in place. He has also thanked the airport community including airlines for rallying together in facing this challenge. MAHB has deployed 1,000 additional staff to assist passengers on the ground and to help with the manual sorting of baggage. The extra manpower will remain until the situation is restored.
The update also mentions that systems at KLIA2 are generally not affected at the moment. For other airports in Malaysia, MAHB will continue to extend their operating hours in the event there are delayed flights flying from KUL.
The CEO also thanked the general public’s patience and understanding. MAHB also regret the inconvenience caused. Despite the improvement in the situation, MAHB still urges passengers to arrive at the KLIA at least four hours before the departure time for the next few days. To prevent long queues, passengers are also encouraged to check-in online via respective airline apps or websites.
While Malaysia Airports is still rectifying its issues, the airport operator is also offering free parking at KLIA Main Terminal (Block A, B, C and D) for passengers that leave before 6.00am tomorrow (24 August). The parking waiver was also offered yesterday as many passengers had encountered delayed arrivals at the airport.
According to their tweet, passengers are advised to follow the instructions at the autopay parking machines to claim the free parking.
