AirAsia’s BigPay now offers 2X Big points for every spend

BigPay, the prepaid Mastercard by AirAsia, has announced a revision to its BIG Points reward system. According to BigPay, you can get double the BIG Points that you’re currently getting and this will take effect from September onwards.

Beginning next month, you can earn 1 BIG Point for every RM10 spent via the BigPay card. However, they will no longer award any points for top-ups.

At the moment, you can earn 1 BIG Point for every RM20 spent and RM1 BIG Point for every RM50 you top up. From the example provided above, if you top up RM50 and spend RM50, you can earn a total of 5 BIG Points with the new revision. At the current rate, you will be getting just 3 BIG Points in total for the same transactions.

BigPay is a prepaid Mastercard that’s managed fully from a smartphone app. The app allows you to transfer money to other BigPay users and you can also view the exchange rate in real-time when you’re travelling overseas. On top of that, there’s also a built-in expense manager where you can view your total spending based on category. You can withdraw cash using the BigPay card but they charge RM6 for local withdrawals and RM10 for withdrawals made overseas.

Apart from earning BIG points, the BigPay card allows you to purchase AirAsia tickets with zero processing fees and enjoy additional discounts for add-on baggage and food purchases. BigPay is free to sign up and they will send the card to you for free. However, you’re required to top up a minimum of RM20 as part of the signup process. For more info, you can check out BigPay’s website.

Apart from AirAsia, telcos Digi and U Mobile were supposed to launch a similar prepaid card service by the middle of 2019. At the time of writing, both Digi’s Happy prepaid and U Mobile’s GoPayz card are still not available for new registration.
