Huawei has just released its teaser for the upcoming IFA 2019 event that’s taking place at Berlin from 6 to 12 September. Before their next Mate 30 series flagship is announced, the Chinese smartphone maker is expected to introduce its new Kirin chipset that will replace its current Kirin 980.
For the past two years, Huawei has picked IFA as the event to reveal its latest flagship processor. The current Kirin 980 was announced during IFA 2018 and the same goes as well for the Kirin 970 chipset in the previous year.
The caption for the teaser reads: “Rethink Evolution” and “How do you envision 5G changing the way we communicate?”
Since the introduction of the Kirin 970, Huawei has been focusing a lot in the area of AI and you can expect its upcoming Kirin 990 to boast significant improvements for its NPU (Neural Processing Unit). In preparation for mass 5G rollout, the new Kirin chipset may come with a variant that has an integrated 5G modem.
At the moment, Huawei’s current 5G devices such as the Mate X and Mate 20 X are currently using a Kirin 980 chip with an external Balong 5000 modem. All shall be revealed in two weeks’ time. The Huawei Mate 30 series is expected to be launched in the last quarter of the year but it is speculated that Huawei might announce it earlier in September.
