TNG Digital hires former Firefly CEO to accelerate eWallet growth

TNG Digital, the company that manages the Touch ‘n Go eWallet has announced the appointment of Ignatius Ong as its new CEO. Ignatius was formerly the Chief Executive Officer of Firefly Airlines and the Group Chief Revenue Officer at Malaysia Airlines.

His appointment at TNG Digital will take effect on 12th August 2019. The current CEO, Syahrunizam Samsudin, will resume his role as CEO of Touch ‘n Go. According to TNG Digital Chairman, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz, Ignatius comes into the role with a firm mandate to accelerate growth at TNG Digital as it moves to maintain and solidify its position as the No.1 e-wallet player in the country, directly supporting the nation’s cashless agenda.

TNG Digital Sdn Bhd is a joint-venture between Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd and Alibaba Group’s Ant Financial Services Group. As of July 2019, it was reported that TNG Digital has 4.3 million eWallet users and there are currently 50,000 merchants that use the app. TNG Digital aims to increase this number to 70,000 merchants by the end of this year. Apart from making cashless retail payments, the Touch ‘n Go eWallet also enables toll payments via RFID as well as PayDirect.
