Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Active 2 will have a “touch bezel”

While initial reports of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 seemed to hint at the fact that the device wouldn’t feature Samsung’s signature rotating bezel, a new report just dropped that says otherwise. However, it won’t be making its return in the way that you might expect it to.

SamMobile reports that the smartwatch will sport something called a Touch Bezel where users will be able to run their finger on the smooth bezel of the watch to navigate the UI the way you would with a rotating bezel. Sounds cool, and entirely plausible considering the design of the upcoming device, but is it really the way to go?

For me, the whole point of the rotating bezel is to have something tactile to navigate your watch with that doesn’t require touch sensitivity. Sometimes your fingers just don’t work with a touchscreen (eg, with gloves) and it’s far more convenient to just grab the physical bezel and twist. But now you can’t do that.

That said, I suppose having some rotating bezel functionality might be better than not having one at all.

In any case, the rest of the wearable looks really good. There’s a 1.4″ 360×360 Super AMOLED display on the 44mm watch while the 40mm watch gets a slightly smaller 1.2″ version of that. It’s also protected by Gorilla Glass DX+ and has a MIL-STD-810G case.

Inside, the smartwatch will have a couple of incremental updates over the current Galaxy Watch Active, such as additional features like ECG and Fall Detection. But, it doesn’t look like a massive upgrade over the existing watch. It will, apparently, feature Bluetooth 5.0, however.

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 is expected to be launched alongside the Galaxy Note 10 on August 7th. So, definitely stay tuned to SoyaCincau.com for all the juicy details.
