The Galaxy Watch Active 2 is expected to launch soon, but it seems that Samsung isn’t neglecting the current-model Galaxy Watch Active. Samsung has announced that a big update is coming to the first-generation that will, among other things, bring an adjusted app drawer that’ll work better with the Galaxy Watch Active’s touchscreen.
Bixby is also being updated, with Samsung’s virtual assistant now possessing added functionality. This includes the ability to start customised exercise routines, find out time differences between cities, and easily control the SmartThings ecosystem. According to Samsung, Bixby’s also learns from your routine and preferred questions, becoming progressively more helpful over time.
But the highlight of the update (for now, at least) is the updated app drawer. Previously, users had to rotate the list of apps to get to a new page, but now, a simple swipe will help to navigate between pages. As the Watch Active lacks the rotating-bezel that’s on the Galaxy Watch, this certainly brings a level of optimisation to the Active that wasn’t there before.
You’ll also now have a “Goodnight” mode that not only changes the UI to a minimalistic watch face during late hours, but will allow users to check the time without being bothered by notification alerts during set hours. These settings are customisable, so the added feature is very much welcome.
Lastly, there have been updates to the health/fitness aspect of the aptly-named Active, with automatic swim tracking added, along with a new look for the “Breathe” guide. You’ll also be notified whenever your heart rate falls below a pre-set figure, too.
