Asus had considered putting a 7,000mAh battery on the ROG Phone II

The ROG Phone II is an epic gaming smartphone and it comes with large 6.59″ 120Hz display with a whopping 6,000mAh battery. Before Asus had finalised its final product, they had explored various prototypes with different screen sizes and battery capacities.

During the media preview, they had six prototypes on display and one of them is packing a screen as large as 6.75″. On top of that, the samples also offer various battery sizes ranging from 5,000mAh to a tablet-like 7,000mAh capacity.

Obviously, having a bigger battery also means that the device will be less practical to hold for long hours. The prototype with a 6.59″ display and a 7,000mAh battery has a thickness of 11.11mm and it weighs 260g. Meanwhile, the larger 6.75″ prototype that has a 6,500mAh battery is slimmer at 9.6mm but it weighs 261.61g.

Eventually, the ROG Phone II settles for the current configuration that weighs just 240g and has a respectable thickness of 9.49mm. This is a well-balanced option that offers an immersive gaming experience on the go with a long-lasting battery.

Apart from the weight and size, Asus had also put some thought into the roundness of the edges. To strike a balance between grip and screen-to-body ratio, they have opted for a rounded corner design that has an active area radius of 3.0mm.

Instead of going for a bezel-less design, the ROG Phone II features a slight bezel on the top and bottom corner which offers a better grip. The extra space also allows the device to house two front-facing speakers that can playback audio in stereo.

According to Asus, the flat 6.59″ display is the world’s first 120Hz 1ms AMOLED HDR panel. It also offers an average Delta E of less than 1 which promises to offer a higher level of colour accuracy.
