It appears that Redmi will be introducing a new smartphone that will feature a high resolution 64MP main camera. They have shared a sample image on their official Weibo account, claiming to be the first 64MP sample taken from the device.
According to leakster Ice Universe, the upcoming Redmi device is using Samsung’s new ISOCELL GW1 CMOS mobile image sensor which is currently the highest resolution in the industry. This is the same sensor on Realme’s upcoming “premium killer” that is expected to be announced soon.
The new 64MP image sensor comes with a rather large 1/1.72″ size and it comes with 0.8-micron pixel size. In low light situations, it has a pixel-merging Tetracell technology where it merges nearby pixels to create a larger 1.6-micron pixel size. As a result, the sensor is capable of creating bright 16MP images in low light and highly detailed 64MP shots in bright situations.
So far there are no further details on the device’s hardware specs. Could this be the Redmi Note 8? Last year, Xiaomi Malaysia had launched the Redmi Note 5 in April and then they launched the Redmi Note 6 Pro in October.
