This baby boy’s name is Google

Honestly, I shouldn’t even be surprised. Parents these days are getting really creative with their child-naming choices, so I shouldn’t be fazed by the fact that an Indonesian couple named their newborn baby boy Google, after the search engine giant.

But, at the same time, how can you not be just a little surprised?

News broke last week about little baby Google when his mother shared their birth certificate on social media, which TheStar reports “went viral”, but I’ll be honest, this is the first I’m hearing of it. According to father Andi Cahya Saputra, the reason he wanted to name his baby boy Google was in hopes that he could help many people and become a useful person to others–which is actually kinda sweet.

But, as someone who was forced to live through secondary school, I shudder at the thought of the jokes he may have to live through.

Still, Google (the tech giant) has taken notice of little baby Google, and has even sent the infant a care package containing a Google jumper, among other tokens of appreciation. Mother, Ella Karina told Tribunnews that Google congratulated them, and also expressed hope that little baby Google would help many people.

Obviously, this is not the first time someone has named their kid after a big, multinational corporation. The last time I saw news like this it was about little baby Kia who was born in the back of a Kia Carens people-carrier. In that story, Kia sent the family a brand new Kia Carens as a token of appreciation.

So, the next time you want some swag from your favourite brand, you know what to do.
