The Samsung Galaxy Fold is now ready to launch according to Samsung Display VP

The Samsung Galaxy Fold is almost ready to be released to the public. Samsung Display’s Vice President, Kim Seong-cheol had mentioned during a conference that “Most of the display problems have been ironed out, and the Galaxy Fold is ready to hit the market.”

Samsung Display, which is a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics is responsible for the Infinity Flex display. Despite being rigorously tested with over 200,000 folds and unfolds, the Galaxy Fold units have started to show various display problems just days after Samsung had seeded out review units to several media and tech sites. Because of these issues, Samsung had postponed the Galaxy Fold’s release to make necessary design fixes.

The foldable smartphone was supposed to go on sale in the US as early as April and the Malaysian launch was originally scheduled for 3rd May. Recently, a South Korean report that the Galaxy Fold will be released in July but Samsung had denied the rumour.

If it isn’t going on sale in July, there’s a possibility that the Galaxy Fold could be “relaunched” alongside the Galaxy Note 10 which is scheduled to be announced in early August. The Galaxy Fold is priced at US$1,980 (about RM8,231) in the US and we expect it to be priced lower when it comes to Malaysia. If the device is released in August, the Galaxy Fold will be the first mass-produced foldable smartphone in the market since Huawei has pushed back its Mate X release to September for further testing.

According to Samsung Display’s VP, the Galaxy Fold, when released, will receive a lot of attention in the market and he forecast that the foldable display technology will play a core part in the 5G era. He believes that 5G will accelerate the emergence of new types of products such as rollable and stretchable displays.
