WWDC 2019: New iPadOS brings mouse support for the iPad

The latest range of iPad models including the iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad Mini allows you to add a keyboard and an Apple Pencil. Unfortunately, it still doesn’t support a mouse which some considered to be the missing piece of the puzzle when it comes to a computer replacement. When Apple introduced iPadOS during WWDC19, it appears they have slipped in an extra hidden feature which enables mouse support for the first time.

Steve Troughton-Smith, an iOS developer, had discovered mouse support under its AssistiveTouch feature. Apparently, it works with USB and Bluetooth mouse, and it also works with Apple’s own Magic Trackpad. You can see it in action in the video below:

From the looks of it, the AssistiveTouch feature is designed to simulate a finger touch and it isn’t an arrow like a typical mouse cursor. At least, it still works as a mouse and hopefully, Apple will extend this feature to work as an actual mouse. What do you think of the feature? Let us know in the comments below.
