Oppo Reno and Reno 10X Zoom edition unboxing

The Oppo Reno series has finally arrived in Malaysia and this could be one of the most interesting devices in 2019. The Reno series is Oppo’s new premium smartphone series that replaces the R-series. So in Malaysia, we are getting both the Oppo Reno as well as the Oppo Reno 10X Zoom Edition.

And since I have both of the devices here with me, let’s check out what’s this smartphone duo all about.

From the looks of it, both the standard Reno and the 10X Edition Zoom Reno are quite similar to one another. Both of these devices I have here with me comes in Ocean Green and just like any flagship smartphones these days, both the devices comes with a curved back for a comfortable grip.

As you can see, there’s also no notches on both of these devices as well. That’s because both of them gets a 16MP wedged-shaped pop-up selfie camera, which is pretty interesting.

While both of these devices shares the same outlook, the screen sizes of the standard Reno and the 10X Zoom edition are actually different. The 10X Zoom edition Reno gets a larger 6.6” Full HD+ AMOLED display, while the standard Reno only gets a smaller 6.4” screen.

Under the hood, the standard Reno only gets a mid range Snapdragon 710 processor that’s mated to 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, while it’s more capable sibling gets the top of the line Snapdragon 855 processor with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

One of the most significant differences between the two are the rear camera setup. So as you can see, the 10X Zoom edition Reno gets a triple camera setup that consists of a 48MP main camera and an 8MP ultra wide angle lens. The 3rd camera is a 13MP telephoto lens that comes with a periscope setup and it is capable of pushing 60X digital zoom.

And if you were to compare the zoom capabilities with the Huawei P30 Pro, I would say the P30 Pro is much more reliable than the Reno. The hand held stabilisation on the P30 Pro is way better than the Reno, and the pictures taken on the Reno is much more saturated.

Now let’s talk about the more affordable standard Reno. Unlike the 10X Zoom edition, the standard Reno only gets a dual camera setup that consist of a 48MP main camera and a 5MP lens for depth effects.

In terms of battery capacity, the 10X Zoom Reno gets a slightly larger 4,065mAh battery while the standard version comes with a 3,675mAh battery. But the good news is, both of them supports Oppo’s VOOC FlashCharge 3.0 via USB-C.

And now for its price. So the standard Reno with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage is priced at RM1,999, while the more capable Oppo Reno 10X Zoom Edition with 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage is priced at RM3,399.
