Here are sample photos taken from the OnePlus 7 Pro

The OnePlus 7 Pro is definitely coming with a triple-camera setup as confirmed by its latest teaser. Wired UK had managed to get their hands on a unit and they have shared a couple of OnePlus 7 Pro camera samples with some taken with its 3X telephoto shooter.

These images were taken from the recent 2019 Azerbaijan Grand Prix and the folks at Wired says that their unit is a near-final pre-production model. For the first time, it gets a 3X optical zoom and it performs better than the 2X zoom feature on the previous OnePlus model. Unlike other new flagship contenders, the OnePlus 7 Pro will not come with a Time of Flight (ToF) camera for depth sensing.

Sharing their experience with the smartphone, the OnePlus 7 Pro is said to be not as fast as a Pixel 3 but it’s instant enough with a shutter lag of 0.3 seconds or less. It has auto HDR which you can turn off in the settings menu. They added that there’s a delay when shooting burst mode and it has a 20-frame limit.

According to OnePlus, they are focusing on bringing more clarity and density to their pictures. As a result, photos will be more detailed compared to their previous phones.

For the main camera, it uses downsampling or pixel binning to create a detailed 12MP image. According to them, the downsampling helps to reduce noise but unfortunately, there was no option under settings to shoot photos in its full original resolution. Although they didn’t specify the main camera’s hardware specification, we are guessing that this could be a 48MP sensor from Sony. Wired has noted that noise reduction is less aggressive compared to Huawei.

Some significant improvements on the OnePlus 7 Pro is HDR. Wired says that the OnePlus 7 Pro can hold onto realistic colour temperature and tonal fidelity well when lots of dynamic range boosting is required. Unlike other smartphones that constantly remind you that AI is enabled with its continuous scene detection, the OnePlus 7 Pro takes a more subtle approach by tweaking your photos quietly in the background.

With the telephoto lens, you can expect natural looking portrait photos with the OnePlus 7 Pro. According to Wired, the OnePlus 7 Pro will require a distance of 1.5m to 2m for portrait photos to work. For low light shots, the device also features its own “Night mode” but it still isn’t on the same level as the P30 Pro. Instead of a long exposure shot of 5 seconds or more, the “Night mode” on the OnePlus 7 Pro was slightly slower than a normal shot. Unfortunately, there was no high-resolution copy of the samples provided so it is hard for us to judge the image quality for now.

The OnePlus 7 Pro will be announced on the 14th May alongside its standard OnePlus 7. The Pro model is expected to be their most expensive model yet with a new display that aims to provide an extra smooth experience.
