This is Huawei’s first smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera

After introducing a punch-hole display on the Nova 4, Huawei appears to be trying a new way to solve the selfie-camera conundrum. The Chinese smartphone maker will be releasing its first pop-up selfie camera device and it’s speculated to be called the Huawei P Smart Z.

Similar to the Vivo NEX and OPPO F11 Pro, the device gets a full view display that has no notches or punch holes at the top. When you need to take a selfie, the camera will pop-up with a motorised mechanism.

According to a Dutch website, the P Smart Z is a mid-range device that is powered by a Kirin 710 processor. The display is said to be 6.59″ panel that pushes a Full HD+ resolution of 2340×1080. Their source also indicates that it will come with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage. Keeping lights on is a rather decent 4,000mAh battery.

Based on @evleaks’ high quality renders of the device, the back has a Google Pixel-inspired two-tone design. It appears that the Huawei P Smart Z will come in Black, Blue and Green.

For taking pictures, it is expected to come with a 16MP + 2MP dual-camera combo with the usual AI photography assistance. Meanwhile, the front elevating unit is said to be a 16MP f/2.0 camera. For fingerprint unlocking, the Huawei P Smart Z still retains a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

We never had a Huawei P Smart series device in Malaysia and if this particular device does come here, it might be released as a new model under the Nova series. Could this be the next Nova 4i?
