Xiaomi has just announced the Redmi Y3 and this is their new affordable smartphone that comes with a high resolution 32MP selfie camera. Looking at the specs, this looks like a “Pro” version of their entry-level Redmi 7.
The Redmi Y3 features a 6.26″ HD+ display that comes with a U-shaped notch at the top. For better durability, the front glass is toughened with Gorilla Glass 5 while the rear gets a glossy curved back for a more upmarket appearance.
Powering the device is a Snapdragon 632 processor which can be configured with 3GB RAM + 32GB storage or 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. If you need to expand further, it also supports microSD card expansion up to 512GB with its dedicated slot.
For taking pictures, the front comes with a 32MP selfie camera that comes with AI Beautify 4.0 enhancement. In low light situations, the front camera can combine 4 nearby pixels to create a large 1.6-micron pixel size.
Over at the rear, the Redmi Y3 comes with a 12MP main camera and a secondary 2MP shooter for bokeh effects. It can shoot videos in 1080p up to 60fps as well as 120fps slow-mo in 720p resolution.
The Redmi Y3 comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and it also supports AI Face Unlock. Powering the device is a 4,000mAh battery that charges via a microUSB port. The device also comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack as well as an IR blaster.
In India, the Redmi Y3 is priced as follows:
3GB RAM + 32GB storage – 9,999 INR (about RM591)
4GB RAM + 64GB storage – 11,999 INR (about RM709)
So far there are no details yet if this device will be released in other markets. From the specs, this could be a successor to the Redmi S2 which was launched locally from RM679.
