Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, the owner of Rapid KL’s rail and bus network has introduced a new MyCity pass which provides unlimited journeys for LRT, MRT, Monorail and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). The MyCity Pass which costs RM15/day is available for activation starting 22 April 2019.
The new passes were introduced in response to requests from international travellers and customers from outside Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. For those who have a Touch ‘n Go card, you can activate the pass at RM15 for 1 day or RM45 for 3 days. You can also use your MyKad’s Touch ‘n Go feature for this MyCity Pass activation. The pass can be purchased from the Rapid KL customer service offices at all LRT, MRT, Monorail and BRT stations.
However, it is mentioned that you must have a minimum of RM5 balance in your Touch ‘n Go card at all times. This means, to purchase the RM15 pass, you must have at least RM20 in the card and you must also continue to maintain a minimum of RM5 stored value before each use.
For first time users, you can purchase a brand new Touch ‘n Go card with the daily pass at RM25 for 1-day and RM55 for 3-day pass. This comes inclusive with RM5 cost for the card as well as RM5 preloaded credit which is the required minimum balance for usage. You can learn more from their FAQ.
This daily plan is worth it only if you intend on making lots of trips on a single day. With a cashless payment method (Touch ‘n Go), a single trip from Kelana Jaya to KL Sentral by LRT usually costs RM3.00 one way while KL Sentral (Muzium Negara) to Bukit Bintang by MRT costs RM1.60 one way. You can check the current fares here.
Do note that the MyCity pass does not cover RapidKL buses and KTM Komuter. For frequent users that possess a MyKad, MyTentera and MyKid, it is better to activate the My100 pass which covers RapidKL bus and train services at RM100 for 30 days.
