Samsung Galaxy A70 passes Malaysia’s SIRIM certification

Samsung has recently announced the Galaxy A70 and Galaxy A80 which offer a large 6.7″ screen and a more powerful processor. Both devices are expected to arrive in Malaysia as early as next month.

While we are told that the top of the line Galaxy A80 for Malaysia will come with NFC and that it will support Samsung Pay, this doesn’t seem to be the case with the Galaxy A70. The Galaxy A70 has passed our SIRIM certification and it reveals more details of its wireless connectivity.

According to the listing, the Galaxy A70 with the model number SM-A705F/DS is a dual-SIM device which supports a variety of 4G LTE bands. For WiFi, it supports 5GHz 802.11ac which allows faster transfer speeds than your typical 2.4GHz WiFi.

However, there’s no mention of NFC and the lack of it means that Samsung Pay isn’t supported. As mentioned before, we believe having Samsung Pay will be a huge differentiator in order to stand out from other mid-range contenders. Samsung Pay allows you to use your smartphone as a virtual payment card as it can replace your physical Visa Paywave or Mastercard PayPass cards.

The older Galaxy A5 and A7 for 2016 and 2017 support it and even last year’s Galaxy A7 and A9 also supports Samsung Pay as well although it doesn’t support MST (Magnetic secure transmission) for card-swipe transactions.

To recap on the specs, the Galaxy A70 features a 6.7″ Full HD+ Infinity-U display and it runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor. It comes with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and has 128GB of storage which is expandable via microSD.

The device features a 32MP + 8MP ultra-wide-angle + 5MP depth camera setup for the rear, while the front comes with a 32MP selfie shooter. Powering the A70 is a huge 4,500mAh battery and it supports 25W Super Fast Charge via USB-C. So far there are no official pricing details yet but we expect Samsung Malaysia to reveal more details early next month.
