The Galaxy A family is expanding rapidly with even more affordable options. Over in Russia, Samsung has announced the Galaxy A20, which sits right below the current Galaxy A30 which is officially selling for RM799 in Malaysia.
According to Samsung Russia’s announcement, the Galaxy A20 features a 6.4″ Super AMOLED Infinity-V display which is the same size as the Galaxy A30. However, it pushes a lower HD+ resolution of 1560×720 pixels. The device still features a “3D Glasstic” back and it runs on a mid-tier Exynos 7884 processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Storage is still expandable up to 512GB extra via a microSD card.
For taking pictures, it gets a 13MP f/1.9 main camera and a 5MP f/2.2 secondary shooter, while the V-shape notch houses an 8MP f/2.0 selfie camera. The A20 still gets a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and it also supports Samsung Pay if NFC is available.
Similar to its Galaxy A siblings, the Galaxy A20 gets a 4,000mAh battery but so far, there’s no mention if it uses USB-C and if it supports fast charging. In Russia, the Galaxy A20 is priced at 13,990 Rubles (about RM885) but we reckon it should be cheaper if it comes to Malaysia. The Galaxy A20 has already passed Malaysia’s SIRIM certification along with a cheaper Galaxy A10 model, so we can expect both models to go on sale very soon.
The Galaxy A10 is already launched in India and it features a smaller 6.2″ HD+ Infinity-V display and it has the same Exynos 7884 processor as the A20. Since it’s an entry-level device, it gets 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a single 13MP rear camera and a smaller 3,400mAh battery that charges via micro USB.
Samsung is also having a Galaxy A Unpacked event early next month and we can expect up to three new models. It seems that the Korean smartphone maker is working overtime to recover lost ground in the entry to mid-range segment. This is where Chinese smartphone makers have been dominating in the past few years and Samsung is fighting back by offering large AMOLED screens and bigger batteries at an affordable price.
