Asus now has a ZenFone Max smartphone with a triple-camera setup

Asus has just announced two more smartphones under its ZenFone Max lineup in Brazil. Both are the first smartphones to use Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon SiP processors and one of it comes with a triple-camera setup.

Asus ZenFone Max Shot

The ZenFone Max Shot has a 6.26″ Full HD+ display that comes with a notch at the top. In terms of design, it looks similar to last year’s ZenFone Max Pro M1 and it still comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Under the hood, it runs on Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon SiP 1 14nm 1.8GHz Octa-core processor that’s paired with an Adreno 506 GPU. It comes with up to 4GB of RAM and has up to 64GB of storage which is still expandable via microSD.

Instead of the usual System on Chip (SoC), the SiP chip is based on a System in Package solution. According to Qualcomm, this is the first commercial multi-chip semiconductor designed in Brazil, and it is engineered to help to enable design efficiencies, reduce development costs and accelerate time to commercialisation for OEMs. This new processor is said to be on par with the Snapdragon 450.

For taking pictures, the Max Shot has a 12MP f/1.8 main camera that uses Sony’s IMX486 sensor, a 5MP camera for depth effects and an 8MP for ultra-wide-angle shots. In front, the device gets an 8MP selfie shooter.

Powering the device is a 4,000mAh battery and it still charges via a microUSB port. Interestingly, the Max Shot supports 5GHz 802.11ac WiFi which isn’t available on the ZenFone Max Pro M2.

Out of the box, it runs on Android Oreo with a stock Android experience. In Brazil, the ZenFone Max Shot is priced at 1,349 Brazil Real, which is about RM1,436.

Asus ZenFone Max Plus M2

ASUS has also introduced a cheaper dual-camera variant that’s called the ZenFone Max Plus M2. The specs are identical, except that it comes with just 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

The Max Plus M2 also shares the same 12MP f/1.8 main camera + 5MP depth shooter as the Max Shot, but it loses the ultra-wide-angle shooter. The device is also powered by a similar 4,000mAh battery that still charges via a microUSB port.

The ZenFone Max Plus M2 is going for 1,299 Real (about RM1,383) in Brazil. At the moment, both the ASUS Max Shot and Max Plus M2 are only available in Brazil. The direct converted pricing is quite expensive and we reckon it should be priced lower if it ever comes to Malaysia.
