The Huawei P30 series will be launching in less than two weeks and the upcoming photography-centric smartphone has just gotten the green light from SIRIM. This is an indication that the device will be going on sale very soon and we expect local pre-orders to start shortly after the global announcement.
According to its SIRIM listing, the Huawei P30 Pro that carries the product code VOG-L29 is a dual-SIM device that offers the usual 4G LTE bands including the lower 850MHz and 900MHz frequencies. It also supports Reverse Wireless Charging which made its debut on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. This feature allows you to charge other compatible devices wirelessly by placing it on the back of the P30 Pro.
In terms of WiFi, there’s nothing new and it still supports up to 802.11ac on 5GHz. It doesn’t support the faster 802.11ax or better known as WiFi 6, which is currently offered on the Samsung Galaxy S10+.
Pricing wise, we expect the P30 series to be priced higher than last year’s P20 and P20 Pro. Since the P30 Pro will have a larger dual-curved display and a more sophisticated camera setup with a periscope mechanism, we believe that it could be priced higher than RM3,500 like the current Mate 20 Pro. For the non-Pro P30 model, we expect Huawei to priced it below RM3,000.
Since Malaysia is an important market for Huawei, we will be among the first countries in the world to get it. You can also expect Huawei Malaysia to offer additional freebies which may include a 1TB backup + fast charging accessory. The Huawei P30 launch is taking place in Paris on 26th March 2019.
