Nissan brings the X-Trail 2.0L hybrid to Malaysia

The facelifted Nissan X-Trial will feature a new 2.0L hybrid variant for the first time in Malaysia. The range, including a 2.0L 2WD petrol (both in base and mid spec versions), a 2.5L 4WD version as well as the new top of the line 2.0L hybrid version, will be coming to Malaysia in April and Nissan is already taking bookings for those who are interested.

Altogether, there are four variants to choose from starting with the base RM139,00 X-Trail 2.0L 2WD petrol, the RM149,900 2.0L 2WD mid-range petrol, the RM159,900 2.5L 4WD petrol and the new top-of-the-line 2.0L Hybrid which is priced at RM169,900. There are five colour options across the range: Diamond Black, Tungsten Silver, Titanium Olive, Brilliant White and a new hue for the facelift called Imperial Umber.

2-litre hybrid 142hp (+40hp motor assist) and 200Nm (+140Nm motor assist). 6.21L/100km

The hybrid version shares the same 2-litre MR20DD four-pot as the all-petrol X-Trail. The engine pushes 142hp @ 6,000rpm and 200Nm @ 4,400rpm. In hybrid form, the engine gets an additional 40hp and 140Nm. It features a low-friction oil seal and does away with the auxiliary belt to optimise performance.

Other differences from the non-hybrid X-Trail include a CVT transmission system that incorporates Nissan’s Intelligent Dual Clutch Control. With this, the electric motor sits between two clutches, one on the gearbox side and one on the engine side. This allows the electric motor to be de-coupled independently from either the engine or the gearbox to reduce power losses due to friction. It also allows the electric clutch to work more efficiently.

The hybrid version gets a claimed average fuel consumption of 6.21 litres per 100km and is offered in 5-seater configuration only (the rest of the X-Trails in the range are 7-seater) to make room for the lithium-ion battery that’s located in the cargo area.

Packed with tech

Other goodies included in the X-Trail hybrid are a 7-inch infotainment system with built-in navigation and support for Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto. There’s also a full-colour LCD panel located on the meter panel between the two main gauges. Nissan calls this the Advanced Driver Assist display.

As you would expect, the hybrid X-Trail is packed with tech. Tech like Nissan’s Around View Monitor with Intelligent Moving Object Detection, Intelligent Ride Control, Intelligent Engine Brake and Intelligent Trace Control.

There’s also Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Motion Activated Power Tailgate, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert plus Intelligent Cruise Control, High Beam Assist and Intelligent Forward Collision Warning with Intelligent Forward Emergency Braking (AEB).

In terms of safety, the hybrid X-Trail gets six airbags as standard as are the Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold function, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Traction Control System (TCS), ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist (HSA) features. You also get two Isofix child seat anchors with top tethers.

5-year unlimited warranty

As with any hybrid vehicle, the main concern is the warranty for the lithium-ion battery pack. For the hybrid X-Trail, Nissan’s standard 5-year unlimited mileage warranty that also covers the hybrid components including the battery pack.

As a pre-launch offer, Nissan is giving a two-year or 40,000 km Periodic Maintenance Service – whichever comes first. In addition, the first 500 registered vehicles will also receive an exclusive gift worth RM488.
