Xiaomi Mi 9 and Redmi Note 7 have passed SIRIM certification. Malaysian launch expected soon

The Xiaomi Mi 9 will be making its global debut today in Barcelona and the device is expected to go on sale in more countries including Malaysia. The device was announced in China last week and now it has just gotten the green light from SIRIM.

SIRIM’s database is offline at the time of posting but based on a screencap by Amanz, the Mi 9 for Malaysia carries the model number M1902F1G. Since the device is already certified for the Malaysian market, you can expect Xiaomi to offer the device in Malaysia very soon.

To recap, the Mi 9 gets a 6.39″ Full HD+ AMOLED display and it is powered by a Snadragon 855 processor. The device comes with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM that comes with 128GB of UFS2.1 storage.

For taking pictures, the Mi 9 gets a triple-camera setup consisting of a 48MP f/1.75 main camera, a 12MP f/2.2 telephoto shooter and a 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera. On DxOMark, the Mi 9 scored 107 points which puts it above the iPhone XS Max. In terms of video, it has the highest rating of 99 points. The device also comes with a 20MP selfie camera that’s housed on a tiny notch.

Powering the Mi 9 is a modest 3,300mAh battery and it supports even faster charging than before. It supports 27W wired charging via USB-C and 20W via wireless charging. The device also gets dual-frequency GPS, 802.11 ac WiFi with 2×2 MIMO support. In China, the Mi 9 is priced from 2,999CNY (about RM1,816) for the base 6GB RAM + 128GB model. Redmi Note 7

The Redmi Note 7 is also spotted on SIRIM with the model number M1901F7G. As spotted earlier, the device is expected to go on sale in Malaysia beginning next month with an 18-month warranty.

To recap, the Redmi Note 7 gets a 6.3″ Full HD+ display and it runs on a Snapdragon 660 processor that’s running at a higher 2.2GHz clock speed. It has up to 6GB of RAM and has storage options up to 64GB.

For taking pictures, the Redmi Note 7 gets a 48MP f/1.8 + 5MP dual-camera combo while the front features a 13MP selfie camera. Powering the device is a large 4,000mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 4 via USB-C. The Redmi Note 7 still retains a 3.5mm headphone jack and an infra-red blaster.

According to our tipster, surprisingly, both the Mi 9 and Redmi Note 7 were certified locally without the LTE Band 5 (850MHz). While most local telcos utilise the 1800MHz, 2100MHz and 2600MHz bands, the lower 850MHz frequency is still required for Unifi Mobile’s 4G network.
