V15 Pro: Quick look at Vivo’s new pop-up selfie camera smartphone

Vivo V15 ProVivo V15 Pro

The Vivo V15 series will be announced very soon and this is a new mid-range smartphone that will succeed the current Vivo V11. Ahead of its official launch in India next week, we managed to get a quick preview of the V15 Pro. Unfortunately, we are not permitted to mention exact details of the hardware specification, so do consider this as a teaser before we can share our first impressions.

Similar to the Vivo NEX, the V15 Pro gets a FullView display that stretches edge to edge. There’s no notch on the display which gives it a more immersive viewing experience. Similar to most “FullView” Android smartphones, the bottom chin of the device is noticeably thicker than its forehead. Also included as standard is an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The V15 Pro we have at hand is the Topaz Blue version which comes with a subtle turquoise to blue gradient effect. If you look closely, there are fine lines underneath the surface that has a unique reflective effect.

Over at the back, the V15 Pro gets a triple camera setup that’s assisted with a bunch of AI beautification features. It’s arranged vertically on a huge bump that’s aligned with the pop-up selfie camera.

Just like the NEX, the selfie-camera uses a motorised pop-up mechanism that slides up in less than a second. Instead of an 8MP front camera, Vivo is fitting a higher resolution 32MP sensor on the V15 Pro. Despite having a FullView display, the V15 Pro still has an earpiece speaker that’s placed right above the display.

Despite being a 2019 model, the V15 Pro still charges via a microUSB port instead of USB-C. Fortunately, it still retains a headphone jack at the top of the device.

The Vivo V15 and the V15 Pro will be announced in India on 20th February 2019 and the local Malaysian launch should be happening soon. Vivo Malaysia has already started teasing the device with Dato Sri Siti Nurhaliza as their brand ambassador.

Vivo Malaysia has not revealed the pricing for the two devices but we reckon that it should be going for less than RM2,000. As a comparison, the current Vivo V11 is priced at RM1,699, while the cheaper V11i is going for RM1,299. Stay tuned for our upcoming first impressions where we can share more details of the device.
